I am sure that the problem with apache, but I do not know in which direction to dig.

Eg. by answering my question after your Ubuntu and PHP version ;-)

As Ralf posted that is not a good version of PHP, that said it is
possible to resolve "some" of these issues by checking the error
logging and modifying the php file to eliminate some of the issues.
I found php
was attempting load more than one php accelerator. Remove xcache and
(if installed) see if it helps. I found that I could have one or the
other but not both. The package is called
php5-xcache. Some people reported that apc alone caused a problem.
Try running "php -v" to see what errors you get.
The simplest fix as Ralf said was to load his backported php
