I presume that you have tnef installed?
For v1.8 you can check in: domain.com/egroupware/setup/check_install.php This little utility is required to open up some of the 'proprietary' attachment formats. Check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Neutral_Encapsulation_Format for more info. The error that you're getting looks like a tnef one. I presume that
you have the same problem with all emails from Foxmail? Try sending
an email from something like Thunderbird:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and see if you get the same problem. Foxmail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxmail is also a bit naughty in that it violates various RFCs, so may also be an issue. (Outlook at least is rfc 822 compliant) Be aware that the setup process tests for the existence of the binary, and doesn't actually run it. Particularly if you are on a shared server, the permissions/restrictions are different (include path/open base dir and no doubt others). I presume that there are no errors associated with this in your log files? If you are getting no errors in your log files, then I suspect this is a failure of the felamimail to cope with the attachment, and therefore is presenting it as raw base64. Worst case scenario is that you get the base-64 gunge and have to manually transalate them: http://www.motobit.com/util/base64-decoder-encoder.asp giving: -------8X------------ <P><BR></P> <P><BR></P> <P>ä½ å¥½<BR></P> <P><BR></P><SPAN id=editDiv class=editMail><SPAN id=notDraft></SPAN><SPAN id=underSign></SPAN><SPAN id=content_old></SPAN></SPAN> -------8X------------ I notice some funny characters in there - odd? I see that you've tried foxmail sending 'plain text' rather than html, but can you try selecting a more 'common' character set? other base64 code gives: -------8X------------ panther£¬ÄúºÃ£¡ heo ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Ö Àñ£¡ ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡zhenglq ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡[hidden email] ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡2012-03-14 -------8X------------ ...the ! marks are because I can't match up the character set correctly, which leads me to think that there may be a character set issue here. Interestingly also from the Microsoft Website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc815781%28v=office.12%29.aspx -8X--------------
Being that Foxmail does abuse the standards and possibly also because I suspect you are using a multi-byte char set, everything it sends is probably going to be base64 encoded. You'd need to look at the data stream to the server from the Foxmail client to be 100% sure. If you haven't got any errors in the log file, then I suspect you need to look at what char sets are available to the felamimail webclient. These will be those that are installed in the system and are available to the webserver concerned. Adding the charsets that you are missing has a fairly good chance of resolving the issue. Really you should be using UTF-8. See:
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/unicode.html However if you need to support gb2312 it's worth looking at this: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Chinese-HOWTO-9.html Pine version 3.95 and later can read gb2312, so you can check whether the email concerned can be read on the eGroupware system if you have shell access. Unfortunately, the character set for a system is set to a single set defined by the systems locale: $echo LANG in order to view. Conversion between other sets can be provided by: http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/ Examples about how to use this are given here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/64860/best-way-to-convert-text-files-between-character-sets but is definitely not something that eGroupware is likely to support!....just me exploring this as a problem.Do you fancy a coding challenge? $yum install recode
or $apt-get install recode or as appropriate for your system supports the translations that you require *BUT* is not integrated into eGroupware. Perhaps ask someone to code it for you, and return the code to the project? Either pay one of the experts at this site, or...there's always rentacoder? www.rentacoder.com www.elance.com etc Sorry, it's not something that I could do, but hopefully you've now got a decent understanding and start point for your problem? Interestingly also from the Microsoft Website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc815781%28v=office.12%29.aspx -8X-------------- * If 25% or more of the characters have the high bit set, the attachment is binary. It is encoded using the Base64 algorithm. /Content-type: application/octet-stream/ (by default; based on file extension) /Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64/ -8X------------------ Being that Foxmail does abuse the standards and possibly also because I suspect you are using a multi-byte char set, everything it sends is probably going to be base64 encoded. Felamimail can parse "text/plain; charset=GB2312". Maybe you lack PHPs multibyte support. You should have mbstring and iconv extensions installed and mbstring.func_overload has to be set to 7 in your php.ini. With EGroupware EPL we have some Chinese customers using filemanager and email. I'm very interested in this as I am comparing this product as a trial against a number of other solutions. This is auseful set of tests, and definitely of interest, and may indicate more closely a potential problem.
As Ralph Becker has said, clearly 'Felamimail can parse "text/plain; charset=GB2312', as it successfully did it for your html format encoded email. This indicates that the correct charsets and conversion capabilities *ARE* installed on your server. UTF-8 from the webclient, we'd expect to be fairly standard, so it is no surprise that it is processed correctly. Knowing how 'non-standards-compliant' foxmail is means that I wouldn't have been surprised by: -------------8X--------- foxmail--------Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64-------can not parse foxmail--------Content-Type: text/plain; charset="gb2312" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64---can not parse -------------8X--------- However, getting this from Thunderbird: -------------8X--------- thunderbird--Content-Type: text/plain; charset=GB2312 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit-------can not parse thunderbird--Content-Type: text/plain; charset=GB2312 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit-------can not parse -------------8X--------- Does concern me. (especially if I'm going to suggest the use of eGroupware to a teaching organisation with multinational connections). Obviously check Ralph Becker's suggestions, but I'd be really interested in looking at how these emails are structured. To that end, I'd be grateful if you could add 'egroupware{at]anothermouse#dot#c om' so I can see what they do on my test installation. It'd be nice to get the problem duplicated, and I have enough knowledge to skim over the source code if required if I experience the same problems. |

Hi,
Out of interest what are you comparing this with?

I can't understand what is the "add" meanning. Is that send the mail to this mail address? |

Send the test emails to that address as well. I can then look at what I
get, and whether my egroupware installation can be made to cope with the base64 encoding.
